Hi all

I’m sure we covered this on the forum at some point, but can’t find it.  Also tried all the solutions I found on the internet, but none seem to work :- (

I have a png as a wrap background image, defined in my CSS as

#wrap
{
   width: 550px;
   margin-left: 250px;
   background: transparent url(cback2.png) repeat-y;
   padding: 0 40px 0 40px;
   }

Having read the previous post on png’s, just pointing out that I’m using a png cos the left and right of the image are transparent, and (I suppose rather obviously) the transparency doesn’t work in IE (I just get a wide blue stripe down either side) – does anyone know of a fix for this, one that works, and ideally can be implemented in my CSS?

Thanks

Can you use a filter for IE? They use it in light box's CSS to display a PNG I think. I will have a look....

....here is the line in the CSS from light box

Code:
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src="overlay.png", sizingMethod="scale");

That may help.

Hi Jacknife, I tried that but it didn't work.

Here is a rough working model of what I'm doing - http://www.olds.cc/kb07/index.htm I did try using a gif with transparent edges, but got a blurred opaque stripe on either side (which is better than a solid coloured stripe,I s'pose)

Unrelated, but if anyone looks at this and has any suggestions for using CSS to present the discography info, that would be appreciated too. I've had to use a table for uniformity in the content on the site, as he sends me his gig details as Excel sheets, and wants them in tables, so I've been using tables throughout, but would prefer to use CSS if possible

Ah, after a bit of searching on this forum, i found this thread http://design.ersblock.com/forum/index.php?topic=2746.0 which confirms what I thought (um, that I'm wasting my time looking for a solution to the transparency in the repeating bg image.....)
